I realized a couple things; first, I try to get any scheduled posts wrapped up the night before and then schedule them to post the next day, but for some reason last night (probably because my belly full of prime rib was interfering with my regularly ramen-fueled thought process) I just hit publish instead of scheduling it to be posted later. Anyway, I said that my 2010 Players to Watch for the Bucs would be posted "tomorrow", but my "tomorrow" I meant Sunday...not today. Does that even make sense? I hope so. Also, I have another post scheduled for this week that I just whipped up this morning. So I'm going to add that in to this week's Odds and Ends. OK, enough rambling, here's what you came here for:
Box Score:
- 2008 Anchorage Bucs star and 8th-round draft pick Paul Goldschmidt was recently featured in this great article. The Texas State product led D1 college ball in RBI's with 89 in 2009, and was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in last year's amateur draft.
- The Valley Frontiersman has run an article about the ABL documentary "Touching the Game - Alaska". It's always nice to see some press in the local papers about anything ABL-related, so give it a look.
- The ABL main site has linked to the blog. I've already lavished praise upon them; in fact, that's one of the stated goals of the whole thing I've got going on here, so I don't really know what to say about it. Other than, thanks, you guys rock!
On Deck:
- My 2010 Players to Watch for the Anchorage Bucs will be here TOMORROW! Don't miss it. I've got a little write-up on a handful of players that I felt were most interesting, for one reason or another, on the Bucs' 2010 provisional roster.
- I've got a great profile article coming up on 2010 Panner Mykal Stokes. He's a great young prospect out of California who's got at least a couple of Major League teams looking at him, and he's signed on to come play in Fairbanks this summer. Don't miss this one on Tuesday.
- I might do some kind of sappy late-Christmas/early-New Year's post about love and happiness and big hugs and all that kind of stuff. Maybe I should wait until tomorrow when the "Christmas Spirit" (aka beer) wears off a little.
- I'm also thinking of the direction that I want to take this blog in the coming months. In the short term I will, of course, keep writing up my take on news pertaining to the ABL and its future/former players, and keep my eyes peeled for the 2010 rosters so I can write up Players to Watch. I think I will also try and do some articles on individual players, particularly ones I haven't really covered in any other updates, so that fans who are curious about 2010 players can get to know the team a little better. Of course I would love to do some interviews with future/former players, so I'll try and get some of that going. In a couple months the regular college season will start, so it'll be fun to keep track of some of our boys and see how they do. Then, of course, the regular ABL season comes around. I don't think I will do a game-by-game log or anything (how would I make it to every game?) but I'll keep the news/opinion coming, plus some other ideas I had: weekly rankings, "Who's Hot" articles, photo posts, scouting reports, stuff like that. So, that's what you can expect in the short term to long term on here. Let me know what you think of these ideas.
