It's going to get busy around here. Even though I've been dealing with holidays and all of that, I've been writing like a madman. I've got stuff already written out (in rough-draft form, at least) and scheduled to be published either every day or every other day for the next week and a half. And I have more ideas in my head. What can I say, I'm a blogging fool. We'll take a look at the next week's worth of posts, but first, let's peek at some quick notes and a recap of the last week.
Box Score:
- Fangraphs released their Mets Top Prospects List this week, and lo and behold, 2006 Bucs alum Ike Davis is right there in the #2 spot. If you didn't read this blog a month ago or so (don't worry, no one else did either), we followed Ike during his 2009 Arizona Fall League campaign. I was certainly impressed with his strong showing in the AFL, and I must not be the only one. Anyway, congrats to Ike Davis, and best of luck from here!
- In case you missed it, I did a short Q&A with the Bus League Baseball blog about the ABL. Bus League Baseball is a really refreshing blog; in addition to pieces about the affiliated minor leagues they cover independent leagues, as well, and have also ran some articles recently about women who are challenging the gender barrier on baseball. I recommend you add them to your daily feed...I have!
- A quick look back at the stuff I've posted this week: on Sunday I ran the 2010 Bucs Players to Watch. On Tuesday we took a look at one of next season's most promising Panners, Mykal Stokes. On Wednesday: my "Mulcahy in December" photo post, and on Thursday was my sappy year-end thank-you fest.
On Deck:
- I am going to start a new weekly series, Top 20 ABL Players of All Time. I'll have a new post every Tuesday profiling some of the most notable stars to come out of the Alaska League. The focus will be on players who have gone on to stardom (not necessarily the best ABL stints). We'll start this next week with an introduction and quick wrapup of players #20-16, followed by 15-11 the week after. After that I'll reveal the rest of the rankings one at a time, counting down from #10 all the way to the Top ABL Player of All Time. I've already started forming the list, but if you have any last-minute suggestions leave me a comment and let me know who your favorite ABL alumni are!
- Tomorrow I'll be posting a little write-up I did on the subtleties of college baseball and the amateur draft, which might answer some questions that newer ABL/college ball fans have, especially the question of why talented players often choose to play at smaller or lesser-known schools rather than the big D1 powerhouses.
- On Thursday I'll have the latest 2010 player profile up, this time focusing on 2010 Anchorage Bucs two-way player Justin Hopper. It should be a good one, so check it out!
- As always, I will keep posting any big news or interesting articles that come to mind, and we'll be back next weekend with another Odds & Ends.
