Ever wake up to your alarm, turn it off, and then go back to sleep? Ever just forget to turn your alarm on entirely? I did both of those in the past two days. Let me just say that I am glad that this week is over and that it is now the beginning of a three day weekend. Time to get caught up on some school, family, and of course, writing about the Alaska Baseball League. Here's some odds & ends:
Box Score:
- Indians Prospect Insider has a great writeup on 2007 Anchorage Buc Chen-Chang Lee. The Taiwanese prospect is listed on the site as #34 of Cleveland's top 50 prospects, and possibly a future Major League reliever. Check out the article, it includes some scouting video as well, which is always fun if you're a prospect nerd like me.
- The Anchorage Bucs have added a new local product to their roster, junior Colin Zimmerman. The infielder has been playing ball for the University of Hawaii Hilo Volcans and will return to AK this summer to play for his hometown team. Colin has mostly been used off the bench as an underclassman, but who knows? Maybe he will pull a Pat Floyd and come back up north to hit .400 in a Bucs uniform.
- With the Juco/DII/DIII/NAIA season taking off, at least for schools with climates warm enough to get an early start (not that that's stopped a ton of games from getting rained/snowed/winded out due to the crazy weather happening literally everywhere), let's check in with some ABL recruits who have had big games: Mykal Stokes (Panners) had a single, a double, and a run scored for Orange Coast vs. Long Beach City on Thursday...UTPB standout Austin Wooldridge (Panners) had a 2-for-4 day with 2 RBI's last Sunday against St. Mary's...Edgar Molina (Panners) hit his first homer in a Lee University jersey on Thursday
- A quick recap of this last week's posts. Sunday: Interview with Zak Basch. Tuesday: #7 on our All-Time Countdown, Mark McGwire. Friday: Player Preview of Panners recruit Tony Cingrani.
On Deck:
- I have an interesting project coming up tomorrow. I thought it would be interesting to see where ABL recruits come from, so I've done a statistical analysis of the 2009 rosters and will present a breakdown of 2009 ABL players by school. That way you can get an idea of which states' schools are best represented in the league.
- You know what happens on Tuesdays. The next installment of our Top ABL Players of All Time Countdown. This week we're down to #6. Who could it be? I already know, but don't worry, I won't spoil it for you.
- This week it's "Where is he now?" week, so be sure to come on back when we catch up Glacier Pilots standout Casey Weathers, who is now a top MLB prospect in the Rockies organization and an Olympic bronze medalist.
That about covers it. Make sure you have a happy and safe President's day weekend, and we'll see you on Tuesday for our next installment of the All-Time Countdown.
