2006 Anchorage Bucs' Ike Davis debuts for NY Mets

Thanks to modern technology I was able to photograph Ike
Davis' third major league at-bat...from the comfort of my
living room.
Ike Davis was indeed called up and debuted for the NY Mets. This is kind of a "live blogging" post with updates throughout the day. Most recent updates are at the end.

Here's a quick rumor for you: Ike Davis (Bucs, 2006) has allegedly been called up from AAA Buffalo by the New York Mets and is en route to Citi Field to make his MLB Debut.

The rumor came across the Twitter wire this afternoon that Davis had been scratched from the Buffalo lineup for today's International League game. Speculation on tweet street is that the reason behind this move is that Davis is headed into the city now to dress for the Mets tonight.

Whether or not he has actually been called up yet, it's only a matter of time before he puts on the Mets jersey. Mets fans have been speculating like crazy since the team designated Mike Jacobs for assignment, which leaves an empty spot on the 40-man roster. Davis is the obvious candidate to fill that hole.

The team just got back to NYC from a road trip and open their homestand tonight against the Cubs at 7pm ET (3pm Alaska time). According to the Mets' website, their game tonight should be broadcast on ESPN.

Update 4:55pm: Davis did indeed get the call by the Mets and singled in his first at-bat. Congrats to Ike, the latest on a long list of ABLers to go on to the major leagues!

Update: 5:40pm: Ike just hit a single up the middle; picked up his second MLB hit and his first RBI.

Update post-game: Davis ended the day 2-for-4 with an RBI. Not a bad start to what will hopefully amount to a long major league career!

Update, Tues. 7:53am: Project Prospect has a scouting report & video on Ike Davis posted. It comes from their Digital Prospect Guide, which is pretty cool. I was given a sample of the DPG and it is essentially an e-book with scouting reports on the top pro prospects, with built-in scouting videos.

  1. This is a cool story. I am a Met fan and big baseball fan who was at Mondays debut. I will be making my first visit to Alaska this June and hope to see another future Met.

  2. Hey Bob...that's awesome! I'm glad you'll be up to AK this summer, I'm going to post my game schedule this season. If you're going to be at the park the same day I am come find me and say hi. I'd love to hear what you think about Alaska and the league.
