Ryan Pineda is a very promising prospect out of Cal State Northridge who has signed on with the Anchorage Bucs this season. The business major, who calls Las Vegas his home, lit up the Big West conference for the Matadors this year, hitting .316, batting in 66 RBI, and stealing 24 bases. For his efforts, Pineda was picked first-team all-conference this year and was the first Matador to have the honor bestowed up on them since 2005.
If Pineda has professional ambitions, he could be very close to achieving them. In fact, perhaps some of the best odds of all out of any ABL player this year, considering he is just a name on the dotted line away from being property of the Oakland Athletics organization. Pineda was drafted in the 28th round of this year's draft by the A's. But don't worry, Bucs fans. He has all summer to sign and if he opts not to, will be eligible for next year's draft also.
If he were to go pro this summer, A's fans have a lot to look forward to in a player who I feel is a promising prospect. You all know how much I love speedy guys, and Pineda is one of the fastest players I've seen in the league this year. He's a big threat to steal, and his six steals in eight attempts is currently second only to Sean Sullivan (7/9) so far for the Bucs this year. Another thing I noticed about him is his arm; he makes hard throws on a line and although the Bucs used him at second when I've seen him play this year, I believe that he's got the arm to move to the left side of the infield in the future if that becomes an option later on.
Of course, you can stay up-to-date on Ryan Pineda, the Anchorage Bucs, and all the players & teams of the Alaska League all season and all year round right here. Check out some other posts related to Pineda by clicking here.
