Posts regarding DJ Crumlich

When the All-ABL picks were announced shortly before the end of the season, I knew I had to get another look at Gold Glove winner DJ Crumlich of the Goldpanners. Fortunately I had several more chances to form an opinion on the talented UC Irvine shortstop, both live and on video, before the year wrapped up. I've been playing with his scouting report all off-season and, encouraged by his selection as a top-25 prospect in the ABL by Perfect Game, I'm now releasing my thoughts on Crumlich for all to see. Here's my take on the guy:

Description: Standing 6'1", Crumlich has a pretty average, athletic middle-infielder build. He stays loose at the plate, draws hands back as he loads up, and then drops them into the swing slot right before swinging with a small-to-moderate stepping stride.

Scouting Report: Matt Addis

The AIA Fire's Matt Addis -- Freshman out of
Sinclair CC -- has the velocity and the pitch
selection. Can he put the complete package
together?

Matt Addis came up to the Alaska League with the 2010 AIA Fire after a successful freshman campaign in the NJCAA with Sinclair. In the ABL he looked a little bit overmatched, at least statistically, but watching him pitch you can see beyond the stat line and note that he's got some good tools to work with. It was easy to see some of Addis' strengths right away, and today I'd like to go over them, as well as some of the areas where he may want to brush up his game. Here's the card:

RHP Matt Addis
Height: 6'2" - Weight: 185 lb
2010 Level: Junior College FR
School: Sinclair CC
Draft eligibility: 2011 (JuCo So.)

Posts regarding Matt Addis

Description: Matt Addis looks a little bit on the tall/lean side, and may bulk up some, though he looks like he has some considerable strength in his lower body. He takes his time on the mound. Addis throws mostly over-the-top and occasionally drops down to the 3/4 neighborhood. He delivers with a big leg kick that has a bit of a "hitch" in it.

August 1, 2010 - Pilots at Bucs (live and video)

Description: Coley Crank has a big, stocky, football-player build. Thick and muscular from head to toe. Crank's load and swing goes through three distinct points. He starts in a wider, balanced stance. Loading up, he takes a step back into a narrow, upright stance, and then strides back into the wide set-up as he unleashes his swing.

Strengths: Power is Crank's number one asset. He has a lot of pop in his bat. He has great raw physical strength in that stocky body, and his swing looks mechanically sound. Despite his striding swing, he's able to keep his head on the ball -- even on the low-and-away pitches -- so he can utilize that momentum to generate power. He puts good wood on the ball with a nice level swing. Shows good patience at the plate for a slugger; he's definitely willing to take some pitches and work the count. Not afraid to take a walk. In the outfield, Crank has displayed some flashy defense. He's willing and able to grind out a big play when necessary.
