Every Saturday (if I can come up with enough stuff) I'll be posting an "Odds & Ends" update to serve as a roundup of all the events that deserve mention but aren't going to get their own post. We'll also take a look at what's coming down the pipe here at 49th State Hardball.
BOX SCORE:
- The Goldpanners have what looks to be an incomplete version of their 2010 roster posted on their website. If it is correct, it looks like they will have a handful of players returning from the 2009 season.
- Dennis Machado will take the helm of the Peninsula Oilers next season. The home-town product led the Glacier Pilots to the NBC World Series last season and will be returning to his old stomping grounds. The Peninsula Clarion has a good writeup here.
- The championship game of the Arizona Fall League is on today at 10:30am Alaska time on MLB Network. ABL alumni Robbie Weinhardt and Matt Gorgen will be suiting up for the Javelinas and the Desert Dogs respectively.
- Speaking of the Arizona Fall League and Robbie Weinhardt, the former AIA standout was selected as Pitcher of the Week for week 5 of the AFL season. In four innings of work he struck out 7, allowed two hits and walked another two.
ON DECK:
- The AFL season is coming to a close today and I intend to follow up my two-part ABL in the AFL series with a Fall League "report card". We'll have a look at how the former ABL players fared in Arizona. Keep an eye out for that sometime this week.
- I'm working on a little piece about the renovation of Mulcahy and the installation of the new turf infield. Not sure exactly when this one will be up to bat but stay tuned because it will be a good one.
