4/10/2010 Odds & Ends

Hello again, baseball fans. As I'm sure you've noticed, MLB season is in full swing, and so are all the full-season minor league affiliates. Baseball is everywhere, except for in Alaska...but that's OK because it's less than two months way. In fact, it is...

- Only 57 days until ABL play kicks off! That's for the Bucs & Pilots exhibition games on June 6th. The first official league game happens on June 9th, and that's the Oilers @ Bucs. If you want to know when your favorite team's first games are, check out the league schedule.

- In MLB action, "The Weave" picked up the opening-day W for the angels this week. Jared Weaver (Bucs, 2002) used his mullet power to strike out six batters over six frames, giving up 3 ER on the quality start. That was good enough for the upside-down Golden Gophers logo.


- Oilers fans, your boy JD Drew hit his first funk blast of the year last night for Boston. The two-run 454-footer came in the fourth inning but the Red Sox still fell to the Royals 3-4. 

- Here's a great article on Goldpanners 2009/2010 Recruit Zach Vawter-Scoggins, who is one of Yuba College's players who are fighting through injuries and trying to put together a winning season. Hopefully Zach can take it easy and get back to 100% before his trip up this summer!

- Just to recap, this last week I finally got the ABL Pro Prospects list put back together and back online. I'm going to enjoy taking a break and writing some fun stuff for a little bit and then onto my next database project. My options are: Draft Prospects list (basically a big table of all ABLers who will be draft eligible in 2010), or work on my top pro prospects ranking. If anyone has a preference as to which they'd rather see first, let me know! Anyway, I also managed to bust out a Preseason Wrap and Part 2 of the "Hey man, where ya' headed?" series.
