New Pilots & Panners: Teams unveil two roster additions

The Anchorage Glacier Pilots and Alaska Goldpanners of Fairbanks have announced a pair of additions to their rosters for 2010.

RHP Thomas Rooke (Pilots) is a junior out of Kansas State and has been unveiled as one of the key components of the Pilots' 2010 roster. Rooke is a strikeout pitcher who anchors the bullpen of the KSU Wildcats; he has starter potential and could open some games for the Pilots this year. On the 2010 collegiate season he's logged a 3.38 ERA with 40 strikeouts and just 9 walks over 29.1 IP thus far. Last year, Rooke got some summer ball work in down in the Texas Collegiate League with the McKinney Marshalls, so he's no stranger to the summer league scene. The Summer Ball blog has listed him as a Player to Watch in 2010.

The crew up in Fairbanks also has a hot new recruit by the name of Alex Pracher, a right-hander out of Stanford. He's a projectable prospect with a high-80's/low-90's fastball which he compliments with a plus slider & changeup combo. So far this year he's been used in relief; his strikeouts are down from previous years (15K over 23IP) but he has been solid nonetheless (3.13 ERA, 2 SV, .253 BAA). Pracher has spent the past two summers out on the other coast in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, both times earning mention in Baseball America as a top-ten prospect in the ACBL. Pracher will join three of his Stanford teammates who have been confirmed as ABL recruits in 2010, and we'll see if he can hack it up north.

Look for these guys and all the other known 2010 ABL recruits in the upcoming Preseason Wrap, which I'm about to wrap up here shortly!
