We're issuing our first-ever Perfect-a-Mundo award, and this week it goes to Goldpanners recruit Mike Tauchman of Bradley. Tauchman went four-for-four at the plate for the Braves in their 7-0 shutout of Missouri on Friday. He picked up two runs and an RBI on the day, and his hits included a double and his second homer of the year. Tauchman's bat has been heating up as of late, and with his average sitting a few ticks below the .300 mark he might just break into the three-hundreds before the season ends.
Oh, yes, they call them The Streak:
Yeah, Ray Stevens humor. I went there. But seriously, we've got a couple kids coming up who put together some respectable streaks last week.
Liberty outfielder Michael Robertson (Fire) unfortunately saw his twelve-game hitting streak come to a close yesterday. Robertson is having an awesome season at the plate with the Flames; he's put up a .355 batting average and an OPS of 1.006. In 93 at-bats he's driven in 22 runs. He's obviously had his fair share of big games, but the biggest for him lats week were a pair of 2-for-4 outings on Tuesday and Friday. He posted 2 and 3 RBI's respectively and touched home once in each.
Cross-park rivals, the Goldpanners, have their own recruit whose getting streaky with it as well; Jarod Berggren is on a 13-game hitting streak for Northern Colorado. He's also put together another nice little streak on Tuesday when he drilled a first-pitch two-run bomb in the first inning. That was his third consecutive game in which he had knocked one out of the park.
Double the pleasure, double the fun:
Why settle for one 2-for-4 game in a day when you can have two? That must have been what Cam Schiller (Bucs) was thinking on Thursday in Yavapai's doubleheader. In both games of the twin bill Schiller was two-for-four. Both games included extra-base hits; a triple in game one and a double in the nightcap. Schiller is batting .351 on the season and has swiped a grand total of 15 bases.
Bouncing back:
Alex Keudell (Pilots) has had a couple of rough outings lately. I take total credit for jinxing him when I said that he had laid to rest any questions about his consistency. Oops. My bad. Whether you buy that or not, Keudell went six strong innings, allowing two to cross the plate and sending five batters back to the dugout on strikes. His was spot-on with his control, giving up only one walk compared to his 5 K's. Other than those couple dust-ups last week, Keudell has been pretty dang solid all season long, posting a 3.40 ERA and 54 strikeouts on 50.1 IP. At risk of messing up the rest of his season, I have a hunch that this will be the Keudell we see in Alaska this year. Knocking on wood...
Complete games: ones that were, and ones that should have been:
Zack Anderson (Fire) pulled off the CG in Master's defeat of Westmont on Wednesday. Over the nine frames, Anderson gave up three earned, struck out seven and only walked a pair. Not much to say there other than that he got the well-deserved win.
Jesse Darrah (Panners) tried to go the distance that day as well, but when he got to the end of the marathon he found that someone had moved the finish line. After pitching nine complete innings and surrendering four earned runs, Darrah found that his offense failed to post enough runs to get him the win...or few enough to get him the loss. The game went to extra innings and Darrah's Hornets eventually lost it. That's a hard-luck outcome, but whatever the outcome in the CG column, nine strong innings is nothing to sneeze at.
The rest of the best:
Think that's all the great preseason performances during the week? You'd be wrong my friend. Here's a wrap of some other other good stat lines:
